Summer Science Factory is a workshop intended for children from 10 to 15 years of age, who have a desire to spend their summer holidays practising science trough interaction with other children and young scientists. This type of workshop was first organized in 2007. It included thirty elementary-school aged children whose satisfaction, happiness, and immense motivation encouraged our students to continue with this project.
The main idea of the Summer Science Factory is to bring children in contact with a scientific problem, and encourage them to come up with a creative and original solution with the help of their peers and mentors. Children are divided into small groups and presented with a problem on which they work with their mentors during the course of the workshop. Each workshop is based on one domain of science and is led by two mentors. Scientific areas range from experimental biology, zoology, and bioinformatics to inorganic and organic chemistry, physics, and informatics. Our goal is to encourage critial thinking and scientific approach to problems.
